Mobile Hospital Project Of GNRC Hospitals
Background: India is on the rise and growing in all dimensions and this growth has touched every state, city and town of India Including the State of Assam. But like most of the villages of India, the villages of Assam are also struggling to keep up with this pace of growth, and encountering many Socio-economic hurdles, some very important aspects being proper education, health and hygiene, and employment amongst many others. Through this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project we are trying to, if not completely solve the health care problem, at-least reduce the magnitude of the problem in rural Assam.
According to a research done by one of the leading management consultancy of India, nearly 4% – 5% of population requires admission to a hospital within a span of 6 months; more than 25% of the population needs medical consultation in any 3 months.
Though the state supported health care is gradually improving in the rural segment, but its still a very long way to go keeping in mind, the rapid and ever changing advances in medical science in the recent years, and of-course the cost attached to it. State supported facilities in the rural areas are just about meeting general health problems, and anything that requires advance diagnosis, surgery, or treatment has to be referred to the private set-up.
The research also mentions that the average cost of hospitalization on an average is Rs. 30,000 which is a significant financial burden to most of the rural population. Every year 3% of the population slips down the poverty line due to expenditure on health and nearly 57% of the population in this region who need hospitalization are not able to afford it.
Having said this, it becomes clear that the involvement of private players in developing the health care scenario of rural Assam is very important, for holistic growth of the state and improving the living standard of the rural communities. Improved health care of the people will mean moral security which in-turn will spill over to financial security, employment security and security of providing education to many children, who cannot afford to attend school due to financial debts of the family.
Many people are unaware of their existing health condition, mostly due to the lack of awareness and concern, and many who are aware of their medical condition are not taking adequate treatment, mostly due to the lack of better facilities in the rural areas and/or dearth of financial ability to undertake the treatment.
Through the GNRC Medi-Reach project we are trying to reach out to the village population of Assam and provide high-end diagnosis facilities to these rural people and help them know their medical status in advance and offer medical advice/prescription for free, rather then wait for an emergency to strike them. Many diseases or/and conditions are controllable and can be completely cured if detected and treated early.
Objective of the GNRC Project:
The GNRC Project is an attempt to bridge the gap between health care requirement and availability.
Through this CSR Project “GNRC MediReach” GNRC Hospitals is trying to do its part in serving the community by providing above basic health care facilities free of cost. The objective of this project is to understand the magnitude of the problem, identify the loop-holes and provide solutions to address the problem.
