The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Established in 1975, NBEMS aims to enhance the quality of medical education by maintaining high and uniform standards for postgraduate examinations in modern medicine across India.
NBEMS conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in approved disciplines, leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board (DNB), Doctorate of National Board (DrNB), and Fellow of National Board (FNB). These qualifications, recognized by the Government of India, are listed under the First Schedule of the NMC Act 2019 (previously under the IMC Act 1956).
On May 6, 2024, GNRC Hospital, Dispur, received NBEMS accreditation for its Department of Neurosurgery. This accreditation, valid from July 2024 to June 2029, allows the hospital to offer postgraduate training with two DrNB seats per year, further strengthening its commitment to advancing medical education and specialized neurosurgical training.
