GNRC Group of Hospitals announces the launch of its Botulinum Toxin (BoNT) Clinic at GNRC Dispur, dedicated to the therapeutic use of Botulinum Toxin for treating a host of neurological disorders. This initiative marks a paradigm shift from the popular cosmetic use of “Botox” towards its proven unparalleled therapeutic benefits in neurology.
The clinic is led by Dr Nabajyoti Barkataky, Senior Neurologist at GNRC Dispur, with support from fellow neurologists Dr Rupjyoti Das and Dr Alfarid Shahid Ali.
What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. While in its natural form, it is one of the most poisonous substances known, in controlled medical doses it is safe, effective, and widely used across the world for different neurological conditions.
Medical uses of Botulinum Toxin include treatment for:
• Uncontrolled muscle stiffness and spasms (post stroke and post head injury)
• Neck muscle disorders causing abnormal head position
• Chronic migraine
• Certain movement disorders
• Eye muscle conditions such as strabismus and blepharospasm
Globally recognized for its effectiveness, Botulinum Toxin works by blocking nerve signals that cause abnormal muscle contractions, offering relief from pain, stiffness, and involuntary movements.
Commenting on the launch, Dr Nabajyoti Barkataky said:
“Botulinum Toxin therapy is a scientifically proven and safe treatment option for patients with certain neurological conditions. For many, it can significantly improve comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.”
With this new service, GNRC strengthens its mission of “Universal Health Mission – Quality Healthcare for Everyone”, reflecting the hospital group’s commitment to global standards of care and advanced medical technology for all sections of society.
