Department of Neuro-Sciences, GNRC Sixmile:
Clinical Neurology
Clinical Neurology is one of the core departments of GNRC Sixmile and is equipped with EEG, EMG and Evoked Potential. The department offers regular OPD consultations and also hospitalization facilities.

Critical Care Neurology
Critical Care Neurology attends to all kinds of neurological emergencies and remains operational round-the-clock. The department is supported by GNRC’s Free Ambulance services. The hospital provides the unique facility for emergency patients to avail many life-saving diagnostic services including CT Scan and about 30 varieties of life-saving medicines free-of-charge for first 24 hours. Even bed charges, doctors’ fees and nursing charges are waived off for the first 24 hours. Acute neurological emergencies such as stroke, acute confusional state, sudden memory loss, acute fever with unconsciousness, acute paralysis are being taken care of through Critical Care Neurological services. The team is supported by 24-hour laboratory and radiology services and the services of an Intensivist. On an average, 5-6 patients are admitted daily for Critical Care Neurology services.
Comprehensive Epilepsy Care Centre, GNRC Sixmile-
The GNRC Sixmile Comprehensive Epilepsy Care Centre is the only centre of its kind in the entire Eastern India. A team of dedicated experts consisting of neurologists, neuro-surgeons, radiologists, neurophysiologists, neuro-pscychologists, speech therapists and rehabilitation specialists work together to help patients suffering from epilepsy. This is the only centre capable of offering surgical treatment for epilepsy in Eastern India, to patients whose condition is otherwise not manageable by medicine alone. More than 3,000 epilepsy patients visit this centre annually for their treatment. This centre is equipped with 4 units of state-of-the-art long-term video monitoring devices for recording of epilepsy patients.
Centre for Sleep Disorder
Nearly 40% of people in the society suffer some form of sleep disorder. The Centre is equipped with a poly-somnography unit, where different kinds of sleep disorder can be studied, analysed and treated, for the benefit of large number of patients. Dr. Vivekananda Lahan, MBBS, Diploma Psychiatric Medicine, with an experience of 10 years in clinical neurology, heads the unit.

Department of Neurosurgery
The Department offers regular OPD clinic, services for neuro-surgical emergencies including trauma and head injuries, and neurosurgical operating room facilities. The OPD clinic of the neurosurgery department caters to the need of petients suffering from brain tumour, spinal disorders like lumbar and cervical disc diseases, congenital brain and spine anomalies, etc. Apart from regularly performing neuro-surgical procedures detailed below, round-the-clock services are offered to any kind of accident patients such as road traffic accidents, falls, assaults, etc., resulting in head and spinal injuries. So far, the department has treated over 6,000 neuro-surgical patients and performed over 1,700 neuro-surgical procedures, with excellent results. The mortality and surgical site infection rates are minimal and below the industry standard. The average length of stay of these patients is also less than 5 days.
